Holistic Home & Hospice is now welcoming new volunteers to serve Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, and Kenosha counties!

Volunteers are a very special and important piece of hospice care. They make it possible to provide additional time, energy, and companionship that so many of the patients and families that we serve would benefit from. No matter what your interests are, we have something that will fit anyone! Call us today at 414-231-3130.

Vigil Volunteers

Vigil Volunteers ensure that no patient dies alone. These very special volunteers are present with the patient during the final stages of a patient’s life.

Helping Hand Volunteers

Helping Hand volunteers are just that; they are an extra pair of hands for the little everyday things the patient or family may need. These volunteers may run an errand, relieve a family caregiver for an afternoon out, walk the dog, pull a few weeds in the garden, or simply stop and chat for a while. Your gift of time will lighten the load of everyday tasks that get left behind, or give the patient the extra one-on-one time that they would appreciate.

Administrative and Office Volunteers

Administrative Volunteers are priceless in providing support in the office: filing, preparing mailings, computer input, answering the phones, and helping with special projects. Some administrative volunteer opportunities can be done remotely – you don’t even have to leave your house to help!

Bereavement Volunteers

The loss of a loved one is the start of bereavement for a patient’s family. Bereavement volunteers go on visits, make phone calls, write encouraging notes or emails, or become a friendly check-in support to let the family know that they are not alone.

Pet Friend Volunteers

Have one of our screened and trained pet volunteers (and of course, their volunteer owners) visit patients and provide socialization, comfort, relaxation, and all the other good feelings that only animals can provide.

Alternative Supportive Care Volunteers

Volunteers who can provide alternative, non-medical care make an extraordinary and profound impact on patients and their families. These modalities include aromatherapy, Reiki, meditation, yoga, guided visualization, and other non-traditional methods through a variety of relaxation and energy work techniques. (Depending on modality, these volunteers may be required to hold a current license or certification in a particular field.)

Legacy Volunteers

Reminisce and/or record a patient’s life stories so the patient can give their family a beautiful look at the patient’s life through recordings, documents, photos or other creative ways.

Art and Music Volunteers

Art and/or music is often relaxing to patients and family members. Help utilize their creative side by playing an instrument, singing or listening to music with the patient and their family, or by creating art with the patient and their family.

Pampering and Self Esteem

Volunteers with current massage therapy license are always needed to provide friendly touch and massage to patients and their families. Pamper a patient and know that you have provided the important time for patients to unwind and relax.

We also welcome volunteers with a current cosmetology license to provide haircuts, shampoos and styling to patients. Manicurists and skin care professionals can also give a patient a self esteem boost by treating them to some special self care through experiences like manicures, facials, and more.

Community Outreach Volunteers

Join Holistic Home & Hospice as we reach out the the community! Represent HHHC at events, help organize outreach opportunities, speak in the community on topics related to end-of-life care, and help us increase our volunteer base.

Spiritual Companion Volunteers

Spirituality and faith are many times at the forefront of a patient’s mind as they reflect on their life. Other end-of-life discussions can be talking about forgiveness, their faith, their families, and any other spiritual needs they may have.

Sewing, Knitting and Crocheting Volunteers

We are looking for creative people who enjoy working with textiles to help provide our patients with the following: (Directions are available for volunteers who do not have a favorite pattern they like to use)

  • Fidget cuffs or blankets
  • Prayer shawls
  • Lap blankets
  • Walker bags (bags that attach to walkers to assist patients with carrying small items)
  • Memory Bear/ Memory Pillow Creator Volunteers (Memory Pillows and Memory Bears are a one-of-a-kind item that is created out of a special article of the patient’s clothing. These items become keepsakes, and will continue to provide comfort to the family for years to come)

“Give Us What You Got” Volunteer

These volunteers have interests, skills and talents to offer that don’t quite fit into one category but would be invaluable to our patients and families. Call Holistic Home & Hospice and let’s talk about any idea that you have on how you would like to help!
